Munnar

Munnar is a hill station located in Idukki District of the south-west Indian state of Kerala. This place is situated at 1,600 -1,800 meters above mean sea level in the Sahyadri mountains (a mountain range that runs parallel to the Western coast of the Indian peninsula, known as Western Ghats). Temperature ranges from a minimum of 0⁰C to a maximum of 28⁰C. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, at 2,695 m. Munnar is one of eighth “hottest hot-spots” of biological diversity in the world among World Heritage Sites officially recognized by UNESCO. Western Ghats has over 7,402 species of flowering plants, 1,814 species of non-flowering plants, 139 mammal species, 508 bird species, 179 amphibian species, 6,000 insects species and 290 fresh water fish species. The strobilanthus ("Neelakurinji" in Malayalam, the local language), a blue flower which blooms only every 12 years, is found in this region. Eravikulam national park is one of the main tourist attraction, where you can find the endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goat called "Varayadu" in Malayalam). A trek to Rajamala ("King of hills" in Malayalam), in the morning is sure to spot a few friendly mountain goats. You can also find Gaur, Langur, Lion-tailed macaque, and Elephants depending on the season and time of travel.

Alleppey

Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha is district of Kerala state of South India. Alleppey is rated as the cleanest town in India by Center for Science and Environment (2016) and also ranked third among the highest literacy rate in Kerala. Alappuzha is considered to be the oldest planned city in this region. It was described as the “Venice of the Eat” by Lord Curzon and hence, it is known as the “Venetian Capital” of Kerala. Alappuzha is the access point for the most famous annual boat race, Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the Punnamada Lake.
